Ghosts of The She

CURATOR'S NOTE: As Facebook webkeeper for Red Hook, Brooklyn-based urban canoe club the Gowanus Dredgers [ fb ], I saw and swooned over Bonnie K Frogma's [ web ] littoral waters documentary photos, especially those of the boat graveyard at Staten Island. Then I sought pictures from other imagemakers to pair with these. Boats are female; they're referred to as she. Bonnie pictured the crumbling ghosts of these small ships. They are ghosts of the sea. Meanwhile, Myriam Hofer's [ fb ] photos of models' shadows on sheer fabric seem ghostly like fleeting spirits or nymphs. The haunting will-o-wisp coastal scenes of Vicki DaSilva [ web ], a pioneer of time-exposure photographic "light graffiti" (in fact, inventor of the phrase), round out the exhibit. Copyright: the artists. Like usual for ARTspace99, this exhibit is non-commercial/non-selling, and any parties wishing to acquire an image/installation/etc must consult the original image-makers (see their web links above). --Terry Ward (AKA GrumpyVisualArtist) [ www ]
